Labor Day for Jewelers

As we spend time preparing side dishes for the cookouts, setting up fun activities for the kids and making all the final preparations for our Labor Day Celebrations, let's take a moment to reflect on what Labor Day stands for and how it relates to us in the jewelry business.

Always the first Monday in September, Labor Day was a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the "social and economic achievements of American workers."  As such, Labor Day is a yearly tribute to the contributions workers have made to the "strength, prosperity and well-being of our country."  Those of us who design, create, supply and write about jewelry should be no exception to this annual holiday and should be proud of ourselves for the contributions we have made as well.

Not only is jewelry often an essential staple for both women and men alike, it has been used in it's most basic form since the dawn of man, even before spoken words or written language.  It's use is an ever present reminder of what separates humans from the animal kingdom - the desire to capture the spirit of beauty in one of it's purest forms.  And without someone to sell our jewelry supplies, create the designs, keep the styles fresh and relevant and make it all come together in a single, beautiful piece uniquely it's own, we'd be left with a world without the artistic beauty that jewelry offers.

So, for this reason, we at Brightlings Beads wish to honor all those who contribute to this most important industry, whether it be through design, creation, photography or any other aspect of jewelry making (leave the supplies to us).  We hope all of our readers and customers have a safe and happy Labor Day.
