A beautiful legend lives on

Amethyst beads are notorious for their beautiful purple colors. Amethyst is actually a variety of quartz  that takes on many forms of purple, including violet, lilac and mauve.  But  amethyst does not gets its trendy look not from a fashion designer. Amethyst is believed to have gotten its purple hues because of the presence of iron when the quartz is being formed.

Luckily for the amethyst, it does not have to struggle with getting enough iron in its diet.

There are also many powers believed to be held within the amethyst. It is believed to be able clear the mind and have a calming power. Over the years, it has been called a power stone, a healing stone as well as a wisdom stone.

There are also many who believe in the physiological healing power of the amethyst.  Because amethyst is a form of quartz, it can increase one’s bio-magnetic field by 100% within a matter of seconds. Just bring an amethyst into the room and let the healing begin.

However, the ancient Greeks derived a different theory. The word‘amethyst’ comes from the Greek language meaning ‘non-drunkenness.’ Ancient Greeks believed that if they drank wine from a cup made from amethyst, then the person would not get drunk at all.

It was also worn by people with drinking problems in an attempt to keep them sober.

Throughout history, the lure of the amethyst has taken on different meanings in various cultures. Egyptian royalty could often be seen wearing amethyst stones because of its purple color. Purple is traditionally the color of royalty and has been worn many monarchs throughout human history. Many British kings and queens also favored amethyst as part of their royal ensembles.

During the middle ages, the catholic church favored amethyst because it was believed to promote celibacy and piety. Modern day bishops have still been known to wear amethyst rings.

Amethyst is also the birthstone for the month of February. It is believed to represent power as the stone of royalty. It is also used to represent fourth and sixth-year wedding anniversaries.

In modern times, amethyst beads are worn by people around the world. And no matter which legend you choose to believe, there will never be a shortage of conversation when talk of amethyst beads starts to sound.
