Beads that bring health and wealth

Varieties of quartz have produced an abundance of gemstones and among them is the aventurine. Aventurine is crystalline in nature and can often have a speckled luminescent appearance.

Aventurine beads might not have the legendary or mythical mystique compared to some of the company it keeps in the gemstone family. There is no month of the year that is represented by an aventurine birthstone and some of its origins remain shrouded with a bit of mystery.

However, there is no denying its sheer beauty.

The most popular aventurine comes in variations of green. At times, aventurine can be mistaken for jade. But to walk with an aventurine in your possession can keep you far from being jaded.

The green aventurine, which are available in wide varieties at Brightlings Beads, symbolizes luck. There is an old adage that says you should never buy a lottery ticket without an aventurine stone in your pocket. Gamblers have even been known to carry aventurine stones with them up to the betting table.

Luck could also be a reason why aventurine is the gemstone used to symbolize eight years of marriage. Sometimes it takes a little bit of luck to make a marriage work.

But, perhaps a bit unluckily, there is some mystery surrounding the origins of aventurine. It was once believed to be the only stone made by the hands of man before it was discovered in its natural state. It dates back to the 18th century when an Italian glassmaker accidentally dropped some copper filling into molten glass. He came up with a beautiful concoction and named it aventurine because of that accidental act. The word aventurine comes from the Italian 'per aventura’ which means 'by chance.’

But long before that chance happening in Italy, there is evidence of natural aventurine. Archaeologists have discovered beads made of aventurine quartz during several digging expeditions all around the world.

There are vast deposits of aventurine in India, which is where most of the green versions of this gemstone are found.

Orange, white and gray aventurine can be found in Russia, Spain, Chile and some are even found in the United States. Aventurine has been in existence for millions of years, it just may not have been uncovered as much as other gemstones have in the past.

In the future, if an aventurine comes into your possession, you could also be provided with some healing powers. Sometimes called ‘stones of heaven’ or  ‘shamrocks of the mineral kingdom,’ the aventurine is believed to have healing powers which can promote better circulation in addition to curing headaches. Aventurine is also believed to be a stress reliever and has been used in the treatment of rashes and other skin problems.

Essentially, the aventurine can bring you health and wealth. In any day and age, what more could a person ask for?
